Heck yeah! An air cooled one at the beginning of the series, complete with the metal wheel covers (like my mom had on her ‘80) followed by one of the first ‘ 83.5 water cooled models with its plastic wheel covers (like I had). They never did upgrade past that water cooled one, so you’ll never see one on the show with the post-1986 rectangular headlights.
Road and Track even tested the water-cooled one at Tustin MCAS, close to where I lived (the magazine was based in Newport Beach for decades).
The Revell model was a little inaccurate. It did properly show an early air-cooled unit as used on the first three seasons of the show, but had the wrong wheel covers for that generation of van.
Although not listed in the credits, it seems that VW supplied a good portion of the cars used on the show. The luxury car at Robin’s Nest was an Audi 5000 (two generations), Carol’s car, as well as the Simon’s rental car, were Rabbit Convertibles, and I’m sure there are more examples. Originally the sports car was supposed to be a Porsche 928, but Porsche refused to modify cars for TV productions and thus the Ferrari 308 GTS/GTSi was chosen and modified by lowering/repositioning the seat so that Tom Selleck could drive it. Years later, as thank you gifts, Tom Selleck actually gave 928s to his co-stars on the show.

I had one as a child, and it was one of my old favorites. Recently I was watching Marty’s Matchbox Makeovers on YouTube and he restored one. At that moment I had to find another.
If you haven’t checked out Marty’s program I would recommend you do so. He’s down in Australia and puts on a silly, but entertaining, program usually about once a week. Watching the various episodes you can see his skills get better week after week.

No problem. I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to Vanagons and that TV show.
Between my mother and I we had three Vanagons - the ‘80, the’83.5 and a’90. I was so bummed when she bought a new car as I was unemployed and couldn't justify buying her Carat. It was immaculate. One of these days I'll have another, most likely a Westfalia, even though I have no intentions of going camping...

Great mix!! Love the Island Hoppers van, but it’s hard to beat a Citroen or Cosmo!
